Our honored guest speaker will be Master Chief Jon Ely, a 1977 graduate of Bryan High School. He enlisted in the Navy in January of that year, at the age of 17. He went on to serve his country for 27 years. During that time, he was involved in several conflicts, including crossing the Line of Death in Libya, the Persian Gulf War with Operation Desert Storm, Operation Provide Comfort and Desert Fox. He finished his career as the Command Master Chief at the Naval Aviation Maintenance Training Facility in Norfolk, VA. During his time in service, he received several awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal from the President of the United States, four Navy Commendation medals and five Navy Achievement medals. He also received his Bachelor's Degree in Professional Aeronautics with a minor in Aviation Safety from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He is a life member of VFW Post 2489 and a member of American Legion Post 284 in Bryan. Master Chief Ely has been married to his wife, Lori, for 41 years and they have two daughters, Megan Elizabeth and Malorie Jean. They have seven grandchildren.
